St. Paul, MN
I hope my art inspires people to remember where they came from and how it relates to how we interact with other people.
Htoo Roh is a Karen artist based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Originally from Burma, he moved to the United States in 2008. He started painting when he was 12 years old in Tham Him camp back in Burma. His art teacher, Pla Wah, introduced him to a variety of well-known artists, such as Michael Angelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and John Sargent. This eventually led to his interest in oil paint. His work ranges from landscapes, portraits, abstracts, and scenescapes. He considers himself to be a ‘visionary artist,’ one that combines a generation of artworks. His goal is to “create pieces that express what cannot be said about history.” Htoo Roh aims to tell the story of the Karen people through his unique and striking oil paintings.
