Artist Statement: Kimchi’s paintings combine her unique experience in the real world with her personal artistic vision. Her oil paintings depict the natural world in images that are dynamic and powerful. There is gentle, lyrical beauty in them, as well as an intense, emotional response to the living, breathing worlds she inhabits.

Artist Bio: Kimchi Hoang is a songwriter, music composer, artist, and private music teacher in the suburbs of Minneapolis. She is an immigrant from Hoi An in southern Vietnam and came over to the United States in 1996.

Escape with My Life

Naturally, I have combined Vietnamese and American’s culture, they have rolled like the
ocean and the sand, they find each other with harmony and purity. The life in the States
is not easy to intergrade, sometimes I feel lost in the crowd; however, I find fascinating
with Vietnamese culture, combined with the fast life in the United States, where the
technology is highly developed, and people are relieved with a long breath-out on Friday
night without the burden of work!

Leaves and Flowers

With a positive attitude, I started to walk in the park alone, I started observing trees,
leaves, flowers, realizing the beauty of each season in Minnesota.
In autumn, walking in the forest when the trees are changing colors, I can feel the magic
in the blended colors of green, red, yellow, purple. The whole forest, sometimes, looks
like a sparkling yellow flying silk!
In the winter, the snow falls slowly on the lake, then later the water becomes freezing
ice. When it’s warm, a feeling of loss with the sound of the breaking ice.
There’s a day when we see the early sunrise, the birds’ chirping outside the window. All
at once, we feel happy again because spring has come, then summer with a bunch of
colorful flowers.
Four Seasons, everywhere I see, are vibrant as the beautiful paintings.

Quarantine Times I

During the Pandemic’s time, I painted mostly with my imaginations. There are Series,
which described the confusion caused by inhibition, lock-down period, and daily news of
thousands of people who passed away by Covid-19… Sometimes, I cried during
working because in the paintings, I found my body dismissed in the open air and I feel
that a human’s life is so fragile!
