Artist Statement

Daniel Kaniess used the gestural movement of humanity in his figure paintings to capture both the ephemeral nature of our existence and the searing permanent images of our memories.

Artist Bio

Daniel Kaniess (1955-2012) graduated from the University of Wisconsin. He was awarded McKnight Foundation Fellowships, a Bush Fellowship, and a Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowship & Grant, among other honors. Exhibitions spanning over 4+ decades around the nation (NY, WI, OH, ND) and internationally are too numerous to mention.

His work is held in collections of the Walker Art Center; Travelers Insurance; Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi LLP; RBC Wealth Management; Hazelden Foundation; Dayton’s Corporation; Dain Bosworth Incorporated; Honeywell Incorporated; and St. Paul Companies.
