Artist Statement

People and landscapes are inclusive in our communities. I try to share what I see and let the viewer interpret what it means to them. My work has been a lifelong journey of observation and capturing images.

Artist Bio

Keith Tolar’s professional background is in education. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Concordia College in St. Paul, MN and has taught school for many years. He has taken composition and other advanced courses at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D. C. and has worked as an intern photographer at the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Keith Tolar’s major influences are leading photographers who have shared their knowledge and talent in print, conversation, and documentaries. He has taught Photography himself to students as a volunteer and in Applied Skills programs. He used his own photographs to stimulate ideas, discussions, creative writing; and to document school events (cultural, guest speakers, artists in residence, classroom activities, and field trips).

Keith has exhibited his work at the Target Corporation Headquarters (Group Exhibit - Black History Month); the Black Bear Crossing café, in the Como Park Pavilion in St. Paul; the Golden Thymes Coffee Shop in St. Paul; the 3M Headquarters in Maplewood, MN; the Best Buy store in Woodbury, MN (Magnolia Room); and the Eastside YMCA in St. Paul, MN.
