VIDYA GIRI
Visual Artist

Artist Statement:  My art is reflective of my background: balanced between cultures, environments, and disciplines. My work has spanned between virtual spaces, projection, and painting on real and digital canvases. Additionally, my work often contains digital elements and thematic ties to my home of Texas, my adolescent years spent in Indonesia and Thailand, and my Indian heritage.

In my works, I aim to experiment with the fragments and pieces of the worlds that have influenced me. Through my work, I hope to spark and explore connections and reimagine new forms of tradition. In creating these pieces, I represent contrasting ideals, embodied adaptations, and the migratory patterns of diaspora that sprout from roots of tradition

Artist Bio:  I am an artist from Houston, TX and have studied at Rice University and University of Colorado Boulder. My work has spanned between virtual spaces, video projection, and painting on real and digital canvases. I have exhibited my work with New Media Artspace, Digital America, South Asia Institute, Hardy and Nance Studios, Texas Art Asylum, Aurora Picture Show, and Texas Woman’s University.
